Building Inclusive Teams Final Presentaion
Project Overview
BUS 2411 Building Inclusive Teams
Team of 5
November - December 2024 | 3 Weeks
In my Fall 2024 Building Inclusive Teams class, I worked in a team of five to research about a diverse population that we might encounter in the workforce and prepare a presentation about them to our peers. The final project was built upon smaller weekly assignments with the synthesis happening for the few weeks before our presentation.
Project Goal
The goal of this project was to inform our peers about autistic individuals and how we might interact with them in the workplace, including information about basic history, unconscious bias, notable individuals, some tips on how to best support autistic coworkers, and more.
Personal Contributions
I am passionate about the subject matter, and I completed more than my fair share. I contributed to the success of this project by:
- Created slides: My team asked me to “make the slides” for the presentation over Teams as I was absent from class that day, so I found a thematically appropriate slide deck to use and created a basic outline. I later learned they only wanted me to create the file.
- Adapted prior research into slide format: I added our team’s research to the slide deck, breaking down the information to best match the rubric and project brief. I broke down the information we needed to cover onto information that would be on the slide and information that would be spoken by using the speaker notes section.
- Designed slides: I ensured that the slides were cohesive and visually appealing, balancing text and appropriate visuals. I kept in mind the preferred style of slides of the professor and attempted to emulate them, staying attentive to the fact that the rest of my team have different presenting skills than myself.
- Properly formatted citations: I gathered the citations from our prior research from an external tool we used and ensured that all citations were properly formatted in the APA style based on the source type. This required manual adjustments as the external tool, Mendeley, was creating problems.
- Coordinated rehearsals: I worked with my team to assign speaking roles/slides to each of us, making sure that each team member understood what I wrote in the slide notes. I also arranged a time for the team to meet in person and run once through the presentation before our scheduled presenting time.
Project Results
My team was the first to present and received high marks from the professor. We were complimented on our slide design as well as our performance in speaking. We stayed on time with little to no reading directly from the slides from most team members. Our professor complimented our team on doing a spectacular job covering the subject. My team members thanked me for my work in making the project a success.
